Sometimes I get the feeling that some of my readers don’t understand why I have Patreon, or even what it is exactly, so let me take a moment to explain. Patreon for me became a bit of a necessity. I’m not a business woman, not a marketing exec or any of the things that could possibly help me do better where selling my books is concerned. You see, when I started self publishing my work, I thought all that was needed was a captivating story and all the rest would fall into place. I grew up reading Nora Roberts, Johanna Lindsey, and Jude Devereaux, just to name a few. I never once thought about the work that had to be put into their books reaching me, not until I jumped into the independent author whirlpool seven years ago and got lost (I still am). You see, there’s a lot more needed to get your books in front of the right eyes, and I just don’t know how to go about doing it. For the first year or so I was fine, I had a small following that grew little by little and I was hitting my stride. And then a plague of blights hit me out of nowhere and I’ve been trying to catch my breath ever since.
All of those things added up to me having to take a step back to re-evaluate my situation. At the end of the day I can’t fight any one of those things. I’m not going to learn how to be a marketer overnight, I can’t stop piracy sites or the thieves who download my work from them,( As soon as one site goes down two more crop up). As fast as the unethical authors are found and terminated they return with a new name and new brand and since they’re the same person, it’s not long before they revert back to the same old practices again. I’ve joked with a few people that maybe I should find a ghostwriter but the truth is, the best part of publishing for me is writing. I love seeing my stories come together by my own hand, otherwise I’m not a writer/ storyteller I’m just an idea generator. And lastly, I cannot stop people from being mean enough to single me out every time they get bored.
Now onto Patreon and why I chose to do it. First, I never heard of it until late last year when someone recommended it. I didn’t like the idea of asking my readers for money outside of what they pay for my books,(as mentioned above, some of them don’t even want to pay for it so why would they consider supporting me on Patreon?) it felt odd to me and was almost embarrassing. Besides, I usually write whole manuscripts for free on my website before publishing them on Amazon, how can I now ask them to pay for the same privilege? Then I did my research and realized that not only is it a good way for me to connect with my existing readers, (Those who wish to support there’s no strong arming and no one will show up at your door with a weapon threatening you to support Jordan Silver or else) but it’s also a great way to find a new audience as well. Also it’s not a new thing, people who can have been supporting their favorite artist in some capacity or another for centuries. Simply put, Patreon allows me to focus on writing and not starve while I do it. I hope this helps you to understand why I’ve chosen this road. Thanks for reading.

I grew up reading the same authors as you! Your writing reflects that die-hard romanticism, but with a modern sense of humor that I love. It is a unique style of writing. Great characters and always a happy ending. I devour anything of yours. I dream about you writing other genres, particularly, an omegaverse book. I would love to see your writing in other genres.

^omg same! I’ve had the same idea that she would do so well in the omegaverse category. Those books are really taking off right now for obvious reasons. Hehe. Some of Ms. Silver’s writing like My Little farm Girl already has some aspects similar to omegaverse. I love Ms. Silver’s writing and I have almost all of her books. She’s awesome!

I have been reading you for about an year and I have seriously tried to devour every book I can find that you have written 😆. I can understand your style of writing might not be for everyone, but I agree with others just don’t read it or just keep it moving. I must say I started reading with the same authors Bertrice Small, Nora Robert, Elizabeth Lowell etc. You stories give me that little extra umph, along with giving me MAJOR alpha. I basically just want to say thank you so much. I will definitely be supporting you on Patreon.

I have only been reading your books for about 6 months, stumbled onto your writing in KU. I am hooked and have written everything you have written and purchased the Lyon as well as the Seal Series as I’ve read them over and over. That being said, I am in a fixed income (retired)and would love to join Patreon with your followers, but just can’t. I will continue to read and sometimes purchase everything I can get my hands on. Thank you for the wonderful stories, good luck and God Bless

I don’t recall “trigger” warnings or content warnings on the books that people complained about. Maybe adding them wouldn’t be a bad idea. I know several authors that always have a warning. Most of the harem and reverse harem book have warnings. I see them on a lot of the dark hero and/or alpha male books. I’m not saying that haters wouldn’t have gotten books removed, but if you told them and they read the book anyway…then it’s on them. Some of the removed/reedited books are very similar to the books that stayed up.

I will always support you no matter what. I discover Lyon’s Crew back in 2014, and I was blown away by you. After I finish with it I went back in brought all your books, I love to read and for me to stumble upon your writing style was a lot for me, I haven’t stop reading your books since than and I will always read your work, there’s no one like you, no one with your writing style, trust me I’ve checked. Do what’s best for you, and you have my support all the way.

Mama Butterfly as a creative person myself I totally understand…. A few years ago, I was doing wonderful and able to sustain my family by just working online but now everyone that has a die cutter is selling tshirts for $10 a that. I can not live off $10 so back out into the workforce I went but I did not allow them to dampen my shine. I remember praying in church and asking the lord to show me if my love for all things creative was a hobby or a business. I receive my first big contact the next week.
Sometimes you have to think outside of the box and take a different path to make it to your ultimate goal. I love patreon it is a great platform to get your work out and test the waters. I love opening the app and seeing a new entry from you… since following you I feel like you are more tangible and that makes me want to interact and read your books more. I will follow you in all that you do…. one of the greatest memories I have of Lyon’s Crew is my 75 year old grandmother reading it to me in the hospital after brain surgery…. she knew I loved your books and she found one and just started reading it (some things I think might have shook her but she took it in stride).

I really enjoy your books a friend recommended you to me and I’ve been hooked ever since. I would love to be a bigger patron but at this time money will not allow. In this time of crisis your books bring a escapism a moment of calm from the anxiety around me. Thank You 😄🌈

I love your work and as said in one your comment, if I don’t like the premise of your books I just don’t read them (menage) or more dark. You are an author I follow in Amazon so I always check regularly.

Well written, well said. FYI, when I go to Amazon now your books are popping up more and more. So, obviously a good choice TO DO YOU, stay true to yourself and focused instead of becoming like THEM. As long as I can, I will always support you, Patreon was a brilliant move. Good Luck with everything and like I always say to you “I want to be just like you when I grow up :-).
